ASKED QUESTIONS

What is FPV drone videography?
Answer: FPV or first-person-view drone videography is a technique of capturing aerial videos using a “racing” style drone equipped with a camera.

What kind of videos can I expect from FPV drone videography?
Answer: You can expect stunning and unique aerial videos with a bird's eye view perspective. With FPV drone videography, you can capture landscapes, real estate properties, events, construction sites, and more.

How do FPV drones differ from traditional drones?
Answer: The primary difference is in how the pilot operates the aircraft. An FPV pilot will wear goggles that allow them to see from the perspective of the aircraft whereas the traditional drone piloting uses a screen in hand to view the onboard live footage. Another difference is in how the aircraft flies. An FPV drone is flown manually and the pilot must retain control of the controller at all times to ensure the aircraft is operated safely. With traditional drones the pilot can remove their hands and using GPS and Lidar technology the drone will hover in place. The final primary difference is the style of aerial footage captured. An FPV drone camera is typically stationary showing all the banking and turning of the aircraft whereas the traditional drone utilizes a gimbal control to lock the horizon and allow for a more relaxed experience.

Are FPV drones safe to fly over people?
Answer: Transport Canada does not allow any remotely piloted aircraft to fly over people or bystanders if it is above 250 grams in weight or if the aircraft does not have some sort of safety declaration like a parachute. Sub 250 gram drones can be ducted, meaning the propellers are shrouded to protect people and property from damage or harm. These style of FPV drones can be safely flown over people with the correct planning and risk assessments completed.
